We wrote the preface to the fi rst edition of this book in March 2009. Th e three years since then have brought a volume of new cases, legislation, reform proposals and academic commentary that thoroughly refutes any lingering idea that land law is a musty or static subject. Indeed, on one day alone (9 November 2011), the Supreme Court delivered judgments in two potentially seminal land law cases: Jones v Kernott and Berrisford (FC) v Mexfi eld Housing Co-operative Limited.
